Away 1.70-2.10 With Over 2.5 at 1.65-1.85: How Often 1-2 or 0-1?
An away favourite in a game the market expects to open up. I checked how often it ends with a narrow away win, 1-2 or 0-1, and how that compares with the price.

- The question
- When the away side is 1.70-2.10 and over 2.5 is 1.65-1.85, how often does the game end 1-2 or 0-1, and is that more than the prices imply?
- Sample
- 22 European league divisions, 2005/06-2025/26; 155,895 matches with 1X2 and over/under 2.5 prices; rung n = 3,327
The away side is 1.70-2.10 and over 2.5 sits at 1.65-1.85. This is a favourite on the road in a game the market expects to have goals. My question is simple: how often does it finish 1-2 or 0-1, and is that more often than the prices suggest? I check this before building most correct-score shortlists for my daily scoreline predictions page.
Across 3,327 matches in 22 European divisions from 2005/06 to 2025/26, a 1-2 or 0-1 landed 20.3% of the time. The 1X2 and over/under prices implied 18.6%. That works out to fair odds of 4.93 for the pair, and the gap of +1.7 points is larger than the ±1.4 sampling range.
Rung 1Narrow away wins rise with the over 2.5 price
This chart keeps the away price at 1.70-2.10 and moves the over 2.5 price up the ladder. When over 2.5 is under 1.65, a 1-2 or 0-1 finished 15.5% of the time across 1,589 games. That is actually below expectation, which makes sense, because the market is pointing to bigger scorelines. On our rung the rate climbs to 20.3%, and it peaks at 23.7% when over 2.5 is 1.85-2.05 across 3,215 games.
View the data: 1-2 or 0-1 as the over 2.5 price moves
| Expected from prices | Actual | 95% range | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Over 2.5 under 1.65 (1,589 games) | 16.6% | 15.5% | ±1.8 |
| Over 2.5 1.65-1.85 (rung) (3,327 games) | 18.6% | 20.3% | ±1.4 |
| Over 2.5 1.85-2.05 (3,215 games) | 20.2% | 23.7% | ±1.5 |
| Over 2.5 2.05+ (2,195 games) | 21.6% | 22.1% | ±1.7 |
| All priced games (155,895 games) | 14.0% | 14.5% | ±0.2 |
I read this as a sweet spot. When the goals price is lower, the game has more room for 2-3 or 1-3 finishes. When it drifts higher, a tight away win becomes the most natural result. Our rung sits just below that peak, and it is clearly above the all-games baseline of 14.5%.
Rung 21-2 beats its price while 1-1 falls short
The overall rate for the pair hides a split, so the table breaks it into single scores. 1-1 is still the most common final score at 11.2%, but it falls 1.1 points short of its expected 12.3%. 1-2 does the reverse. It came in at 10.7% against 9.6% expected, giving fair odds of 9.35.
0-1 adds a smaller edge, at 9.7% against 9.0% expected, for fair odds of 10.31. 0-2, 0-0 and the home-win scores all sit within their ranges of the model.
| Score | Expected | Actual | Gap (pts) | 95% range | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-1 | 12.3% | 11.2% | −1.1 | ±1.1 | 8.93 |
| 1-2 | 9.6% | 10.7% | +1.1 | ±1.1 | 9.35 |
| 0-1 | 9.0% | 9.7% | +0.7 | ±1.0 | 10.31 |
| 0-2 | 8.6% | 8.4% | −0.2 | ±0.9 | 11.90 |
| 0-0 | 6.9% | 6.5% | −0.4 | ±0.8 | 15.38 |
| 2-1 | 6.3% | 6.4% | +0.1 | ±0.8 | 15.62 |
| 1-0 | 5.6% | 5.8% | +0.2 | ±0.8 | 17.24 |
| 1-3 | 5.5% | 5.8% | +0.3 | ±0.8 | 17.24 |
So most of the extra rate comes from 1-2. On a single correct-score bet, that is the line I would compare against 9.35 first.
Rung 3The gap is widest when the away side is shortest
Here the over 2.5 price is fixed at 1.65-1.85 and the away price moves instead. The gap for the pair is +4.2 points when the away side is under 1.70. It eases to +1.7 points on our rung and holds at a similar level in the next band, 2.10-2.60. From 2.60-3.30 outwards it fades to almost nothing, reaching 0.0 points at 4.50+.
View the data: 1-2/0-1 gap at each away price
| Actual − expected | |
|---|---|
| Away under 1.70 | +4.2 pts |
| Away 1.70-2.10 (rung) | +1.7 pts |
| Away 2.10-2.60 | +1.6 pts |
| Away 2.60-3.30 | +0.2 pts |
| Away 3.30-4.50 | +0.3 pts |
| Away 4.50+ | 0 pts |
This is where I add my main caveat. The expected rates come from a score model fitted to the prices, not from quoted correct-score odds. That model runs slightly low across all 155,895 games, at 14.0% against 14.5% actual. Some of every gap here is that baseline, and a point or two on a few thousand games is close to noise rather than a system.
Rung 4Half-time state matters far more than tier or era
The pattern holds steady across tiers: 20.1% in top flights from 1,791 games and 20.6% in lower divisions from 1,536. The eras are similar too, running between 19.3% and 21.1%. That consistency is reassuring.
Half-time is the real dividing line. A 0-0 at the break pushed the rate to 26.9% across 986 games, and an away lead gave 22.2%. If the home side led at half-time, the pair landed only 7.9% of the time.

For in-play bettors, a goalless first half on this rung looks like the more interesting moment, not a reason to give up on the bet.
At this price
- Price the pair near 4.93

- Watch the half-time score
At 0-0 at the break the pair landed 26.9% of the time. With the home side ahead it fell to 7.9%.
