Home Side Priced 1.80-1.99: Is the 1-0 Win Fading Over Time?
A slight home favourite at 1.80-1.99 still produces the 1-0 a touch more often than its prices imply. The real story is where it has faded, and where it has not.

The 1-0 home win is the scoreline I associate most with a slight favourite: one goal, then game management. My question here is simple. At home prices of 1.80-1.99, has that result been fading across 21 seasons, and does it still land more often than the prices suggest?
Across 18,865 matches the 1-0 came in 12.6% of the time against 11.8% in the model, which works out to fair odds of 7.95. It has dipped slightly since the early era, but that dip is concentrated in the top divisions. If you want the daily match-by-match view, my exact score tips page carries it. This file is the long-run price guide behind it.
Rung 1The 1-0 beat the model in most seasons
The line chart sets the actual 1-0 rate against the model, season by season. The actual line finished above the model in 16 of the 21 seasons. That consistency matters more to me than any single peak.
The swings are wide. The best season was 2009/10 at 15.3% and the worst was 2014/15 at 10.0%. With only about 898 games in each season, a swing of a couple of points is mostly noise. The latest season, 2025/26, came in at 14.7% against a model of 11.2%. I would not read that as a revival on its own.

| 2024/25 | 12.1% | 11.5% |
| 2025/26 | 14.7% | 11.2% |
What I take from this is a steady, modest lean rather than a trend you can time. The model line drifts gently downwards, and the actual line wanders around it while sitting above it far more often than below.
Rung 2More goals per game, slightly fewer 1-0 finishes
Grouping seasons into three seven-season eras smooths out the noise. Goals per game at this price rose from 2.51 to 2.58 and then to 2.60. The 1-0 rate went from 13.1% to 12.3%, and it held at 12.3% in the latest era. Meanwhile the model eased from 12.0% to 11.9% and then to 11.5%.
So yes, the 1-0 is a little rarer than it was, with fair odds moving from 7.62 to 8.13. Low-scoring games tell the same story: matches with one goal or fewer made up 28.3% of these fixtures in the first era and 26.6% in the latest. Even so, the gap over the model is still there in every era.
| Era | Matches | Goals/game | 1-0 actual | 1-0 model | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2005/06-2011/12 | 6,737 | 2.51 | 13.1% | 12.0% | 7.62 |
| 2012/13-2018/19 | 6,328 | 2.58 | 12.3% | 11.9% | 8.14 |
| 2019/20-2025/26 | 5,800 | 2.60 | 12.3% | 11.5% | 8.13 |
For a correct score bettor, this is the key point. The bookmaker's own prices have tracked the goal inflation, so the model fell too, and the small edge in the actual rate never fully closed.
Rung 3Top flights lost the 1-0, lower tiers kept it
Splitting by tier is where the fade really shows. In the top divisions the 1-0 at this price fell from 14.0% to 11.7% and then to 11.4%. In the lower divisions it barely moved, going from 12.6% to 12.6% and then to 12.8%.
My reading is about match flow. A slight top-flight favourite that goes ahead now tends to keep attacking, or concedes back, more than it used to. Second-tier sides at this price still seem content to protect a single goal. The overall era numbers hide two very different paths.

Rung 4This rung sits at the peak of the ladder
The bars set this rung against the wider home price ladder. The 1-0 rate is fairly flat among the shorter prices: 12.4% at 1.50-1.59 and 12.6% at 1.80-1.99, which is the highest bar on the chart. It then slides as the home side lengthens, down to 8.9% at 2.70-2.99.
That flat top makes sense to me. Heavier favourites score more and run past 1-0, while longer prices lose more often. The 1.80-1.99 band is close enough to even that a single goal often settles it.

One caveat applies to everything above. The model is a yardstick built from 1X2 and over/under prices, not a quoted correct score price. Real correct score prices carry a bigger margin, and most of these gaps sit inside the 95% range, so running above the model is not a profitable bet by itself.
At this price
- Benchmark against 7.95
Across all seasons the fair price for a home 1-0 at this rung was 7.95, and 8.13 in the latest era. Compare any quoted price with those figures before treating it as value.
- Favour the lower tiers
The lower-division 1-0 rate held at 12.8% in the latest era while the top divisions slipped to 11.4%. That makes the scoreline a better fit outside the top flights.
- Ignore one hot season
The 14.7% in 2025/26 rests on under 1,000 games, and single seasons have ranged from 10.0% to 15.3%. Judge the price on the era figures, not the latest table.
