Home 1.30-1.50 but Over 2.5 at 1.95+: How Often Does It End 1-0?
A short home favourite paired with a long overs price points to a tight game. The market expects some 1-0s. The record shows more.

- The question
- When a home side priced 1.30-1.50 meets an over 2.5 price of 1.95 or longer, how often is the final score 1-0, and do the prices expect it?
- Sample
- 22 European league divisions, 2005/06-2025/26; 155,895 matches with 1X2 and over/under 2.5 prices; rung n = 993
Some price combinations tell you a story before a ball is kicked. A home side at 1.30-1.50 is expected to win comfortably, yet an over 2.5 price of 1.95 or longer says the market doubts goals will flow. When I build my daily scoreline predictions page, this pairing always sends me towards the low scorelines first. I wanted to know how often it ends 1-0.
The answer, across 993 matches in 22 European divisions from 2005/06 to 2025/26, is 18.0% of the time, against 14.7% expected from the 1X2 and over/under prices. That makes 1-0 the most common result on this rung, with fair odds of 5.56. The rest of this guide shows where that gap comes from and how far I would trust it.
Rung 11-0 climbs steadily as the overs price lengthens
This chart holds the home price at 1.30-1.50 and moves along the over 2.5 price. At the short end, with overs under 1.45, a 1-0 home win landed 8.6% of the time across 617 games. At our rung, with overs at 1.95+, it reached 18.0%. The longer the overs price, the more often the favourite edges it by a single goal, which is what you would expect.
The important part is the distance between the dots. On the neighbouring rung at 1.75-1.95, 1-0 landed 14.6% against 12.4% expected over 2,239 games. At 1.95+ the gap widens to +3.3 points, and the 95% range of ±2.4 points does not cover it.

| Expected from prices | Actual | 95% range | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Over 2.5 under 1.45 (617 games) | 6.9% | 8.6% | ±2.2 |
| Over 2.5 1.45-1.60 (2,072 games) | 8.9% | 8.8% | ±1.2 |
| Over 2.5 1.60-1.75 (2,875 games) | 10.6% | 12.3% | ±1.2 |
| Over 2.5 1.75-1.95 (2,239 games) | 12.4% | 14.6% | ±1.5 |
| Over 2.5 1.95+ (rung) (993 games) | 14.7% | 18.0% | ±2.4 |
| All priced games (155,895 games) | 9.5% | 10.5% | ±0.2 |
One caution applies throughout. The expected figures come from a score model fitted to the prices, not from a quoted correct-score price, and across all 155,895 games that model already under-calls 1-0 slightly, at 9.5% expected against 10.5% actual. So part of every gap here reflects the model, and I read the rung against that baseline rather than against zero.
Rung 21-0 outruns 2-0, and goalless draws fall short
The full score table shows where the extra 1-0s come from. The 2-0 scoreline fell furthest short, at 12.2% actual against 14.2% expected. The 0-0 and 1-1 results also landed less often than priced. In practice, when these favourites score once, they tend to stop there, and the model hands too much weight to the second goal and to the stalemate.
There is a twist further down the table. 3-1 landed 7.6% against 5.6% expected, and 2-1 ran slightly above its expected rate too. Most of the rung is quiet, but a minority of these games open up into a home win with goals at both ends.
| Score | Expected | Actual | Gap (pts) | 95% range | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-0 | 14.7% | 18.0% | +3.3 | ±2.4 | 5.56 |
| 2-0 | 14.2% | 12.2% | −2.0 | ±2.0 | 8.20 |
| 2-1 | 9.0% | 10.8% | +1.8 | ±1.9 | 9.26 |
| 1-1 | 10.4% | 8.9% | −1.5 | ±1.8 | 11.24 |
| 3-1 | 5.6% | 7.6% | +2.0 | ±1.6 | 13.16 |
| 0-0 | 8.9% | 7.5% | −1.4 | ±1.6 | 13.33 |
| 3-0 | 8.8% | 7.5% | −1.3 | ±1.6 | 13.33 |
| 2-2 | 2.9% | 3.8% | +0.9 | ±1.2 | 26.32 |
For correct-score bettors, the fair odds column is the useful one: 5.56 for 1-0, 8.20 for 2-0 and 9.26 for 2-1. A price below fair suggests the bookmaker has already priced the pattern in.
Rung 3The 1-0 gap is widest for the shortest home sides
Here the overs price is fixed at 1.95+ and the home price moves. Every band shows 1-0 landing above the model, but the size of the gap shrinks as the home side drifts. It is +3.3 points for home 1.30-1.50, falling to +0.5 points at home 2.70-3.50.
This tells me the effect is not simply about low-scoring games. It is about strong favourites in games the market expects to be cagey. Those are the sides that seem to protect a one-goal lead more often than the prices allow.

Rung 4Lower divisions lead, and every era stays above expected
Splitting the 993 games by tier, 1-0 landed 16.6% in top flights across 639 games and 20.6% in lower divisions across 354. The lower-division figure rests on a small sample, so I treat the difference as a lean rather than a rule.
By era, the rate was 19.3% in 2005/06-2011/12, dipped to 15.6% in 2012/13-2018/19, then recovered to 18.4% in 2019/20-2025/26. Even the weakest period sits above the rung's 14.7% expected figure, which gives me some confidence that this is not one lucky stretch.

| 2019/20-2025/26 (261) | 18.4% |
Each of these slices holds only a few hundred games, though, and a point or two either way is easily noise. This is a pattern to bear in mind when you study a game, not a betting system.
At this price
- Check against 5.56
On this rung, 1-0 has a fair price of 5.56, based on 18.0% across 993 games. If the correct-score price is shorter than that, the pattern is already in the odds.
- Don't default to 2-0
2-0 landed 12.2% against 14.2% expected, the largest shortfall in the table. A single-goal home win has been the better-supported score.
- Confirm both prices
The gap is largest at home 1.30-1.50 with overs at 1.95+. Shift either price and it shrinks, down to +0.5 points at home 2.70-3.50.
Questions bettors ask
How often does a short home favourite win 1-0 when over 2.5 is priced at 1.95 or longer?
Across 993 games with the home side at 1.30-1.50 and over 2.5 at 1.95+, the final score was 1-0 in 18.0% of matches. The prices implied 14.7%.
What are fair odds for a 1-0 home win on this rung?
Based on the actual frequency of 18.0%, fair odds are 5.56. That is a reference point for comparing prices, not a promise of profit.
Is 1-0 more common in lower leagues at these prices?
In the sample, yes: 20.6% in lower divisions across 354 games, against 16.6% in top flights across 639. Both samples are fairly small, so treat the difference with caution.
